Have I Got Your Attention?, written by Ailín Kennedy and Ballyclough native Mike McGrath-Bryan, will be officially launched in Mallow at Philip’s Bookshop, 22 West End, on Saturday, July 25th at 12 noon. The event is free to attend and all are welcome.
One of the surprise publishing successes of the year, Have I Got Your Attention? has featured in Ireland’s non-fiction bestseller charts and has prompted discussions on national television and radio. The book offers a practical, honest and deeply personal guide to adult ADHD in Ireland, with a particular focus on people diagnosed later in life.
As part of the launch event, Kennedy and McGrath-Bryan, who were both diagnosed with ADHD in their thirties, will be joined in conversation by PJ Ahern of Mallow and District Live. The discussion will explore their own experiences, the inspiration behind the book, and the importance of improving understanding and acceptance of neurodivergence.
Alongside their personal stories, the authors include insights from nine contributors living with ADHD, creating a comprehensive guide covering everything from assessment and diagnosis to treatment, relationships, work and everyday life. The book aims to tackle stigma while also celebrating the strengths and unique perspectives that often come with ADHD.
For McGrath-Bryan, returning to Philip’s Bookshop carries special meaning.
“It means a lot to come home and have a chat about ADHD and neurodivergence,” he said.
“Not least because the auld Philip’s on Main Street was where I hung out, bought books and did my TY work experience. It’s important to discuss neurodivergence, and its acceptance. To do so all these years later at a bastion of culture and learning locally is huge for me, personally.”
Published by Merrion Press, Have I Got Your Attention? has resonated with readers across Ireland by combining practical advice with authentic lived experience, making it a valuable resource for those living with ADHD, their families and anyone seeking a better understanding of neurodivergence.
Following the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to meet both authors and have copies of the book signed.
