Hibernian Hotel Director Kevin Owens Remembered as a True Gentleman in Mallow

Tributes have been paid to Kevin Owens, one of the managing directors of the Hibernian Hotel in Mallow, following his passing, with colleagues, friends and members of the local community remembering a respected businessman and, above all, a true gentleman.

The tributes shared in recent days reflect the high regard in which Kevin was held, both professionally and personally, with many recalling his kindness, warmth, sense of humour and the genuine interest he took in the people around him.

At the Hibernian Hotel, where Kevin was a much-loved member of the team, colleagues remembered a man who led with kindness and always made time for others, even during the busiest periods.

One former staff member, who worked alongside Kevin for many years, described it as a privilege, recalling how he offered support, listened when it mattered and brought laughter to the workplace. His dancing at staff parties was also fondly remembered, a reflection of the fun-loving character behind the professional reputation.

In its own tribute, the Hibernian Hotel remembered Kevin as a dear friend, mentor and valued leader whose generosity, kindness and wonderful sense of humour touched the lives of so many.

The hotel will close during his funeral Mass as a mark of respect, allowing colleagues to come together to pay their final respects.

The personal memories shared by those who knew Kevin also speak to the lasting connections he maintained throughout his life in Mallow.

Local financial adviser and business owner Barry-John Ryan recalled memories of Kevin from their younger days around Bank Place and the West End in the 1990s, remembering an energetic character and his close friendship with Darren.

In more recent years, their regular chats on Main Street became an opportunity to discuss everything from Munster Rugby to Kevin’s skiing adventures, dogs and family.

It is a simple but telling recollection of a friendship that endured through the years, shaped by shared memories, familiar conversations and a genuine interest in one another’s lives.

Together, the tributes paint a picture of a man who earned respect through his work and professional standing, but whose lasting legacy lies just as much in the friendships he built, the colleagues he supported and the everyday moments that meant so much to those who knew him.

Kevin’s passing will be deeply felt by his family, friends, colleagues and the wider Mallow community.

Kevin will lie in repose at O’Connell’s Funeral Home, St. James’ Avenue, Mallow (P51 HH61), on Tuesday, October 27, from 5pm, with Prayers at 7pm.

He will be received into St. Mary’s Church, Mallow, on Wednesday, October 28, for Requiem Mass at 2.30pm. The Mass may be viewed online at churchservices.tv/mallow.

Funeral afterwards to St. Gobnait’s Cemetery, Mallow.

As a mark of respect, the Hibernian Hotel will close during Kevin’s funeral Mass to allow colleagues to pay their respects and bid farewell to their much-loved colleague and friend.

The deepest sympathies are extended to Kevin’s family, friends, colleagues and all who mourn his loss.

May Kevin rest in peace.
