As dawn breaks on Saturday, May 9th, the community across North Cork will come together once again for Darkness Into Light, a deeply moving event that continues to shine a light on hope, solidarity, and support for those affected by suicide and self-harm.
In Mallow, participants will gather from 4:15am at Mallow College, joining thousands ברח the country in walking from darkness into light in support of Pieta House. The annual event has become a powerful symbol of remembrance and resilience, with every step helping to fund vital services including free counselling and Pieta’s 24-hour crisis helpline.
This year, the local effort is being supported by a range of community initiatives designed to bring people together before, during, and after the walk.
In the lead-up to the event, a Pieta pop-up shop will be open at 141 Bank Place in Mallow, offering people the chance to register, donate, and show their support while raising awareness for the cause.
Following the walk, Ballyhass Adventure Group is hosting a special “Light into Warmth” experience, with early morning sauna sessions taking place in both Mallow and Coachford at 6am, 7am and 8am. The initiative invites participants to pause, reflect, and connect after the emotional morning, with all proceeds going directly to Pieta.
Elsewhere in the region, the walk will also take place in Kanturk, beginning at 4:15am from Edel Quinn Hall, with organisers advising attendees to arrive early due to expected numbers.
Adding another dimension to the morning, Dromtariffe Vintage Club will host an informal vintage run from The Square in Millstreet at 6:00am, welcoming all enthusiasts for a relaxed drive in support of the cause, followed by breakfast locally.
Further boosting this year’s fundraising efforts, donations to Pieta are being doubled for a limited time thanks to Electric Ireland, up to a total of €100,000, ensuring that every contribution made by the community will go even further in supporting those in need.
