A stunning new video from Cork County Council has captured the beauty of Mallow Castle, its historic grounds and the 84-acre amenity park that has become one of the town’s most important attractions.

With its combination of history, heritage, nature, recreation and family facilities, Mallow Castle and its surrounding grounds offer a unique setting in the heart of the town.

The history of the site stretches back centuries. In 1185, John, King of England, ordered the construction of the first castle in Mallow, beginning a long and fascinating connection between the town and its castle.

Today, the castle grounds are at the centre of ambitious plans to rejuvenate Mallow Town Centre, with Cork County Council working towards developing the area as a major tourist attraction for North Cork.

The development is being delivered on a phased basis, with significant improvements already completed across the grounds.

These include a new state-of-the-art playground, the restoration of the historic walled garden, and the installation of a new pedestrian bridge and pathways in the lower park.

The historic Spa House has also been renovated and is now being used as a Tourist Office and public office.

Cork County Council has interconnected Mallow Town Park, Mallow Castle Grounds and Mallow Castle Lower Park, creating an impressive 84-acre amenity park.

More than 5km of pathways have been developed throughout the grounds, providing routes for walkers, runners and cyclists while encouraging greater use of Mallow’s outdoor spaces.

The result is a substantial recreational and heritage destination within the town, offering something for a wide range of visitors.

From the castle and its history to the walled garden, open parkland, walking and cycling routes and the new playground, the grounds provide opportunities for families, nature lovers, walkers, runners and heritage enthusiasts.

The ongoing development is also seen as an important catalyst for the wider rejuvenation of Mallow Town Centre, with the castle and grounds playing a central role in plans to attract more visitors to the town.

For anyone visiting Mallow, the castle grounds are increasingly becoming a must-see destination,  showcasing the town’s history while providing a modern outdoor amenity for the community.
