Mallow’s McSherry Electrical Takes Key Role in National Velodrome and Badminton Centre Project

McSherry Electrical Ltd., based at the IDA Business & Technology Park in Mallow, has been appointed to deliver the specialist sports lighting solution for the €100 million new National Velodrome and Badminton Centre in Dublin. project at the Sport Ireland Campus in Abbotstown.

The company was selected by Designer Group to deliver the specialist lighting package alongside main contractor Walls Construction.

For the Mallow firm, the appointment adds another major national sports project to a portfolio that includes specialist sports lighting and electrical engineering work across Ireland. McSherry Electrical was established in 1986 and has grown from its original manufacturing and industrial focus to work across sectors including sports and leisure, healthcare, education and institutional projects.

The company is responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the sports lighting system at the new National Velodrome and Badminton Centre.

The lighting system is being designed to meet the demanding standards required for international track cycling and broadcast coverage, with the aim of providing consistent, uniform lighting while minimising glare for athletes and cameras.

McSherry Electrical is carrying out the work in partnership with long-term lighting partner Musco Lighting, using LED sports lighting technology.

The National Velodrome and Badminton Centre is being developed at the Sport Ireland Campus in Abbotstown and is expected to become a major national facility for indoor cycling and badminton.

The centre will feature a permanent 250-metre indoor cycling track designed to accommodate national and international track cycling events, while the central area of the track will incorporate up to 12 badminton courts.

Construction of the landmark facility is scheduled for completion in 2027.

For McSherry Electrical, the project represents another significant opportunity to showcase the expertise of a company that has operated from Mallow for four decades.

The company’s headquarters remain in Mallow, where it provides electrical engineering and contracting services across a wide range of industries.

McSherry Electrical has also delivered sports lighting projects elsewhere in Ireland, including a recent LED floodlighting system at Chadwicks Wexford Park in partnership with Musco Lighting.

The company’s involvement in the National Velodrome project means that a Mallow-based business will have a direct role in delivering one of Ireland’s most significant new sporting facilities.

The project is expected to be completed in 2027.
