Pubs across Mallow, Kanturk, Killavullen and the wider North Cork area have featured in a new national “Guinndex” price tracker, which has highlighted significant variation in the cost of a pint of Guinness across the region.
At the centre of local attention is The Sandpit House Bar in Dromagh, which has been listed as one of the most competitively priced venues in the country, with a pint of Guinness reported at €4.60.
In nearby Kanturk, prices are recorded at approximately €5.60, while in Mallow and Charleville town the cost of a pint of Guinness is understood to be around €6.10.
In Killavullen, The Haven Bar has also been noted in the index, with a pint priced at around €5.50 and receiving a strong customer rating of 4.8 out of 5.
The figures form part of the wider “Guinndex” initiative, a new AI-assisted project designed to track the cost of a pint of Guinness nationwide by collecting pricing data from pubs across Ireland.
The system reportedly involved thousands of pubs receiving automated calls over St Patrick’s weekend from an AI voice assistant gathering price information, forming the basis of a national average of €5.95.
The project, developed by AI engineer Matt Cortland, aims to provide a live snapshot of pint pricing across the country, with users encouraged to contribute updates to keep the data current.
While the index highlights both value and variation across the hospitality sector, its creator has said the focus is on supporting transparency and directing customers towards pubs offering fair pricing, rather than criticising individual establishments.
The platform remains open to public submissions, with organisers describing it as a “living index” designed to evolve as new data is added.
