Buttevant Power Past Canovee and Set Sights on St. Nick’s Showdown

Buttevant will aim to deliver a nightmare before Halloween to St. Nick’s under the lights of SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh in the McCarthy Insurance Group Premier Junior Football Championship Final.

Buttevant were full value after powering past Canovee and maintained the consistent high bar of performance seen during this championship season. Their semi-final victory over Canovee was nothing short of emphatic.

From the throw-in, Buttevant set the tone. Every one of their scores came from play, a testament to their fluid attacking movement and ruthless efficiency.

Mark Lenehan opened their account with a two-pointer straight from the start, and the Hanlon brothers, David and Conor, followed suit with pinpoint accuracy.

Behind them, Michael Walsh, Seamus Madigan, and Anthony O’Neill dictated the physical battles, ensuring Buttevant’s dominance in every department.

A vital save from goalkeeper Ronan Donovan kept Canovee at bay, and by half time Buttevant had built a 0-9 to 0-4 cushion through relentless pressure and clinical finishing.

After the break, they found another gear. Michael O’Neill set up Conor Hanlon for a composed finish to the net, and a long-range effort from Kevin Lenehan that deceived the Canovee goalkeeper all but sealed the result.

Canovee fought gamely, but Buttevant’s discipline and depth shone through in a 2-14 to 0-12 victory.

Buttevant have evolved, blending structure with attacking flair, and now stand just one step away from county glory.
