The history of Annesgrove Gardens will be brought to life through theatre this October, as the Verdant Troupe stages its Annesgrove Gardens Legacy Tour as part of its final outdoor performance of the 2026 season.
The theatrical tour will take place on Sunday, October 11, from 12pm to 2pm, at the historic Annesgrove Gardens in County Cork.
Combining live performance with a guided tour of the gardens, the event will see actors take on the roles of characters connected with the estate and its history.
Visitors will encounter figures including Hilda Annesley, Lady Doneraile, Sylvia, artist Mainie Jellett, explorer Frank Kingdon Ward, writer Elizabeth Bowen and Diana Duff.
The performance will also feature Molly, a servant who shares stories from life in the household, along with the famously cantankerous Doyle.
Rather than simply telling the story of Annesgrove, the Verdant Troupe’s production invites visitors to experience its history among the gardens and historic surroundings of the estate.
An OPW guide will also be on hand to provide an insight into the botanical features of Annesgrove Gardens during the afternoon.
The event is expected to appeal to theatre-goers, history enthusiasts, garden lovers and anyone interested in discovering more about the people and stories connected with one of County Cork’s historic estates.
