Mallow has added a significant new facility for electric vehicle drivers with the opening of a new Tesla Supercharger station at The Arches Bar & Restaurant.
The new station features eight V4 Supercharger stalls, offering charging speeds of up to 250kW for both Tesla and compatible non-Tesla electric vehicles.
According to Tesla, drivers can add significant range in approximately 15 to 30 minutes, providing another convenient charging option for motorists travelling through Mallow and the wider North Cork area.
The opening comes as electric vehicle ownership continues to grow across Ireland.
Figures from the Central Statistics Office show that 7,216 new electric private cars were registered in July 2026, compared with 3,973 in July 2025, an increase of 82%.
For the first seven months of 2026, electric cars accounted for 26% of all new private car registrations, with 57% more new electric private cars licensed compared with the same period last year.
The figures also point to a continued shift away from traditional petrol and diesel vehicles. Between January and July, petrol and diesel cars accounted for 33% of new private car registrations, compared with 44% during the same period in 2025.
The arrival of the Mallow Supercharger provides another piece of infrastructure for the growing number of electric vehicle owners in the region, while also giving motorists travelling through the town another reason to stop.
The development comes against a backdrop of renewed pressure on motorists at the pumps, with petrol and diesel prices increasing in recent weeks.
AA Ireland figures show average diesel prices have risen by 19 cent per litre over the past month to €1.92, while petrol has increased by 9 cent to €1.84 per litre.
For a motorist filling a 50-litre tank, those increases represent an additional cost of approximately €9.50 for diesel or €4.50 for petrol compared with a month previously.
Mallow’s location on the key Cork-Kerry route, along with its position as a major North Cork transport hub, makes the new charging facility particularly relevant for motorists travelling between the two counties.
For Tesla, the opening represents a further expansion of its Irish Supercharger network, with the company continuing to increase the availability of high-speed charging across the country.
Tesla’s first Irish Supercharger opened at Ballacolla in 2017, helping establish a charging route between Dublin and Cork.
The new facility at The Arches gives Mallow another connection to Ireland’s expanding electric vehicle infrastructure and places the town firmly on the country’s growing Supercharger network.
