Banteer Delivers Championship Occasion as Local Star Lifts Munster Title at Home

Banteer Community Sports Field proved itself as one of Munster’s leading venues over a superb weekend of action, hosting six inter-county U16 Ladies Football finals in championship style.

With teams from across Munster arriving in North Cork, Banteer provided a championship setting that matched the quality on the pitch. From early throw-ins to the final whistle, the games showcased the very best of underage football, with supporters, volunteers and organisers all playing their part in a memorable weekend.

The standout moment for the home crowd came in the U16 A Munster Final, where Cork overcame Kerry on a scoreline of 3-09 to 1-11 to claim provincial honours.

At the heart of that success was Banteer’s own Maria Humphreys, who lined out for Cork and played her part in a fiercely contested final. Both sides left everything on the field, but Cork’s composure and finishing edge proved decisive on the day.

For Humphreys, it made the victory even more special. To win a Munster title is one thing. To do it on your home pitch, in front of family, friends and clubmates, is something else entirely.

The cup was presented by Munster LGFA President Lorraine Royle to the Cork captain, capping off a brilliant occasion for the Rebel County and for Banteer.

Off the field, the success of the weekend was a credit to the local community. Stewards, volunteers and organisers ensured everything ran smoothly, from parking to match coordination, helping create an atmosphere worthy of a provincial final.

Hosting six finals in one weekend is no small task, but Banteer rose to it with ease, proving once again its ability to deliver when it matters.
