It promises to be a big night for local soccer on Wednesday evening as two Mallow clubs take to the field in separate league clashes, with Mallow United hosting Kanturk AFC in the Munster Senior League while Mallow Town welcome Boher Celtic in the AUL Division 1.
Mallow United will be looking to continue their impressive start to the season when they take on North Cork neighbours Kanturk AFC at the Town Park.
Kick-off is at 6.30pm, with United heading into the game unbeaten in their opening three competitive outings, a run which also includes a Keane Cup penalty shootout victory.
Mallow opened their Munster Senior League campaign in style with an impressive 4-1 away win over Carrigtwohill United.
After a scoreless first half, Zack Mannas opened the scoring in the 68th minute before Cormac Dilworth released Dean Twomey, who doubled the lead just moments later. Carrigtwohill pulled one back from the penalty spot, but Mallow continued to push forward as Dylan McGrath set up Jay Thompson for a third before Kevin Taylor completed the scoring to secure a 4-1 victory.
That result was followed by a 1-1 draw with Crosshaven AFC, where Mallow once again showed plenty of attacking intent.
Dean Twomey released Killian O’Brien, who rounded the goalkeeper to give Mallow the lead. Despite creating further opportunities to extend their advantage, Crosshaven fought back in the second half to level the game. Goalkeeper Artur Osinski was called upon to make several important saves as both sides searched for a winner.
United will now be aiming to keep their unbeaten run going as they welcome Kanturk to the Town Park.
The club will also be playing their first season with The Mousetrap as main sponsor of the senior team, with Mallow United thanking Aidan O’Connor and Pat O’Connor for their support ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Meanwhile, across town, Mallow Town are preparing for their own major test as they host Boher Celtic FC in AUL Division 1.
The fixture represents a significant challenge for Boher Celtic, who have described the upcoming campaign as their toughest test yet after earning the opportunity to compete in a highly competitive Division 1.
The clash with Mallow Town is expected to provide an early indication of what lies ahead in the new AUL season, with both sides keen to get off to a strong start.
Mallow Town’s game against Boher Celtic also gets underway at 6.30pm at Carhookeal, giving local soccer supporters a choice of two big fixtures in the town on the same evening.
Supporters are encouraged to get out and support their local teams as Mallow United face Kanturk at the Town Park and Mallow Town take on Boher Celtic in Carhookeal.
