The Hawtheatre Company from Galway will bring its acclaimed production of “Last Train from Holyhead” to The Glen Theatre in Banteer this Saturday, May 30th.
The powerful Irish drama, originally staged in 2009 and featuring the late Mick Lally in the lead role, has been revived by Hawtheatre in response to the renewed national attention surrounding the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam and the wider conversations around Ireland’s social history.
Set aboard an overnight train journey, the play follows two men who unexpectedly uncover difficult truths about themselves and each other. Through drink, poker and the influence of a mysterious gypsy woman, the story unfolds into a deeply emotional and thought-provoking exploration of memory, truth and identity.
The production has previously received strong critical praise, with Irish Theatre Magazine describing it as “a story you will remember and are sad to have heard as you step off the train.”
Organisers say the performance promises to be a memorable evening of theatre for audiences in North Cork, combining humour, emotion and powerful storytelling.
The show will begin at 8pm at The Glen Theatre, Banteer, with admission priced at €20.
Tickets can be booked online through the Glen Theatre website or via Ticket Tailor. Bookings can also be made by phone on 029 56239 (Ext. 1).
