A man has died after being hit by a train on the line connecting Cork City and Mallow.
The incident occurred around 4.40pm on Thursday. As a result, all train services between Cork and Mallow have been temporarily suspended.
The train involved was the 2pm Dublin-to-Cork service, carrying 164 passengers. Irish Rail confirmed that these passengers will be transferred from the scene by another train.
In the meantime, bus transfers are operating between Kent Station in Cork City and Mallow, allowing passengers to continue their journeys on connecting services.
Emergency personnel remain at the scene. The area has been cordoned off for a garda investigation, and remained closed for several hours.
Independent TD Ken O’Flynn expressed his condolences, saying:
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident on the rail line between Cork City and Mallow this afternoon. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. I also want to recognise the impact such incidents have on witnesses, emergency responders, and rail staff. May he rest in peace.”
