O’Shea Welcomes €304,000 in Community Funding for Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the allocation of more than €304,000 in community funding for groups across the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District.

The funding, provided under the 2026 Cork County Council Community Fund, will support a wide range of initiatives including upgrades to community amenities, capital projects, and the continued enhancement of towns and villages through Tidy Towns and local development efforts.

Deputy O’Shea said the investment would have a meaningful impact across North Cork. “I am delighted to see this significant level of investment being directed into communities across the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District. These funds will make a real and tangible difference, supporting the voluntary groups and committees who work tirelessly to improve their local areas,” he said.

He added that the funding reflects the strength of community spirit in the region. “From upgrading vital community facilities to enhancing public spaces and supporting Tidy Towns initiatives, this funding recognises the dedication and commitment shown by local volunteers who give so generously of their time.”

Deputy O’Shea also acknowledged the role of local councillors in supporting applications. “I want to acknowledge the work of Councillors Aileen Browne, Liam Madden, Tony O’Shea and Trish Murphy. Their ongoing engagement with community groups has been instrumental in ensuring that projects are developed and brought forward to a high standard,” he said.

The funding package includes support under a number of headings. Capital funding of just under €97,000 has been allocated to projects such as community facilities, GAA clubs and heritage groups, while a further €96,650 under the Amenity Fund will support a broad range of local organisations, including sports clubs, community groups, and development associations.

In addition, €79,350 has been awarded through the Community Contract scheme to residents’ associations, tidy towns groups and local development committees, while €31,200 has been allocated to support festivals and events across the district, including Christmas lights, St Patrick’s Day parades, and local cultural festivals.

Deputy O’Shea emphasised the importance of collaboration in delivering these projects. “This funding highlights the importance of partnership between local representatives, community organisations and Cork County Council. By working together, we can ensure that our towns and villages continue to thrive and remain attractive places to live, work and visit,” he said.

He concluded by congratulating the successful groups. “I want to sincerely congratulate all the groups who have secured funding. Your efforts are at the heart of our communities, and this investment will help you build on the great progress already made.”
