Mallow could soon become the latest North Cork location to benefit from the rapid growth of padel, with plans submitted for a new indoor facility at the Mallow GAA Complex in Carrigoon.
The proposed development would be a significant addition for players in the region, with the sport continuing to gain popularity across Ireland. At present, the only public padel courts available in North Cork are located in Charleville, meaning a new facility in Mallow would provide a much-needed option closer to home for enthusiasts of the fast-growing racket sport.
Go Padel Ltd has submitted an application to develop a purpose-built padel centre at the Mallow GAA Complex, including a new building with five indoor padel courts, a separate toilet facility, a reception and storage building, along with a new car park and associated pedestrian and vehicular access.
If approved, the facility would create a dedicated venue for padel players in Mallow and the wider North Cork area, adding another sporting attraction to the town.
The proposed Mallow development comes as part of a wider growth in padel facilities across the region, with additional courts recently approved at Ballyhass Lakes.
The Ballyhass development, submitted by Maritime Tourism Limited, received planning approval for four padel tennis courts with perimeter fencing, flood lighting, bag drop facilities, a reception building, footpaths and associated works.
The courts at Ballyhass will provide an additional amenity for guests staying at the site’s Holiday Homes and Bunkhouse Village, adding another activity option for visitors to the popular North Cork destination.
The Mallow application is now before Cork County Council, with a decision expected by 7th September 2026.
With new facilities planned in Mallow and Ballyhass and a current facility in operation in Charleville, Padel is set to become an increasingly important part of the sporting landscape across North Cork.
