Cork North Central Labour TD Eoghan Kenny has confirmed he will vote against the Government in today’s Dáil confidence motion, while Independent Ireland TD Ken O’Flynn has urged the public to ensure they are registered to vote in the event of a possible general election.
The Dáil is set to vote on a Government-led motion of confidence, which counters a Sinn Féin motion of no confidence. The vote comes amid ongoing political tension over the handling of the fuel and cost-of-living crisis.
Deputy Kenny said he will be voting no confidence in the Government, stating that he does not support Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, or the current independent-led arrangement.
He said the Government has “failed on housing, failed on healthcare, failed on the cost of living, and failed on education,” arguing that families are continuing to come under increasing pressure without adequate action.
Separately, Cork North Central TD Ken O’Flynn has called on the public to ensure they are registered to vote, warning that a general election could follow if the Government loses support.
“Make sure you are registered to vote. This is not optional anymore,” he said, urging households to check the electoral register in advance of any potential election.
Deputy O’Flynn said people across Ireland are under significant financial pressure due to rising fuel costs, household bills, and the wider cost-of-living crisis. He said peaceful protest is a legitimate part of democracy, while also stressing the importance of maintaining respect for the Constitution and the rule of law.
He criticised what he described as a reactive Government approach to the crisis, calling for immediate action to reduce fuel costs, ease pressure on working families, and restore public confidence through early intervention.
Both Deputies Kenny and O’Flynn highlighted the scale of public concern as the Dáil prepares to vote on the confidence motion.
