Communities Invited to Apply for Ballyhoura Pump Track Development Project

Community groups across the Ballyhoura region are being invited to express their interest in a new initiative aimed at developing pump track facilities in the area.

Ballyhoura Development CLG has secured funding under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) to carry out a scoping and assessment project for up to five potential pump track sites across the region. The initiative forms part of the Ballyhoura Trails Masterplan published in 2024.

As part of the process, Ballyhoura Development is working with consultants Outscape, who are leading the assessment and feasibility studies. A stakeholder engagement event held on February 26, 2026, brought together community groups, local stakeholders, and technical experts to explore the key considerations involved in developing pump track facilities.

Discussions at the session focused on understanding how pump tracks operate, the space and ground conditions required, and the importance of selecting accessible locations, particularly for younger users. The role of community ownership, ongoing maintenance, and safety considerations were also highlighted as key factors in ensuring the long-term success of such facilities.

Community groups are now being encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be considered for inclusion in the assessment process. Successful applicants will progress to a site evaluation and feasibility stage.

Supporting guidance notes and a short informational video have been made available to assist groups in completing their applications.

The closing date for submissions is April 26, 2026. Further details and the application form are available through the Ballyhoura Development website.
