A Cork City schoolgirl has made a remarkable gesture of generosity in support of Buttevant teenager Paudie Coady, donating the presents she received while recovering in hospital to an upcoming fundraiser being held in Midleton.
Emily Pepper, who recently broke both of her arms, decided to donate all of the presents she received during her time in hospital to the 80s Night for Paudie Coady, which takes place at the Talbot Hotel Midleton on Saturday, August 29.
The gesture was highlighted by fundraiser organiser and charity champion Mark O’Sullivan, who took to social media to thank Emily and praise what he described as an incredible act of kindness from the young schoolgirl.
The donation is another example of the generosity surrounding the fundraising campaign for Paudie, a Buttevant teenager whose fight to access life-changing treatment has brought together communities across Cork and beyond.
The 80s Night for Paudie Coady will take place from 8pm on August 29 at the Talbot Hotel Midleton, with all proceeds going towards supporting Paudie and his family.
Hosted by MC Fanta, with DJ Alan O’Sullivan providing the soundtrack, the event promises an evening of classic 80s music, nostalgia and entertainment while raising much-needed funds for the Coady family.
Tickets cost €20 and can be purchased from the Talbot Hotel Midleton reception, cash only, or by contacting Fanta.
But while the fundraiser itself is still to come, Emily’s gesture has already provided a powerful reminder of what the campaign is about.
A young girl dealing with her own difficult experience in hospital chose to think of somebody else, and to give what she had received to help a young boy from Buttevant and his family.
As Mark O’Sullivan put it in his message celebrating Emily’s donation, what an amazing young girl!
