A tennis court in Carraig na bhFear will be transformed into a unique outdoor theatre space this August as the local Drama Society brings Michael Manley’s powerful one-act play “A Land Divided” to the stage.
The special Heritage Week performance will take place on Sunday, August 23rd at 6pm in the Tennis Court beside the pool in Carraig na bhFear, with the Carraig na bhFear Drama Society presenting the production in partnership with the Carraig na bhFear History & Heritage Group.
Rather than a traditional theatre setting, audiences will experience the performance in an unusual open-air venue, with the tennis court providing the backdrop for a story set during one of the most turbulent periods in Irish history.
Set in 1921 during the Irish conflict, A Land Divided follows the events inside Healy’s Bar in the fictional village of Glencarraig, where political divisions begin to create conflict within a community and ultimately tear a family apart.
The production explores the personal impact of a country experiencing deep uncertainty and change, as characters find themselves divided by opposing beliefs and loyalties.
The Carraig na bhFear cast have been working through rehearsals ahead of what promises to be a memorable community performance, with organisers encouraging locals to come along and support live drama in a unique setting.
Admission to the event is free, with a raffle and refreshments available after the performance.
Organisers have advised that the play contains some language reflecting the themes and setting of the production.
The Heritage Week event offers audiences an opportunity to enjoy local theatre, community storytelling and Irish history, all from the unusual surroundings of a transformed tennis court.
