With the summer holidays now underway, a North Cork speech and language therapist is encouraging parents to view the break as an opportunity to help children strengthen key communication skills ahead of the new school year.
Michelle Costello, based at Bellevue Clinic in Mallow, North Cork Speech & Language Therapy says even a small number of focused sessions during the summer can help children build confidence and improve communication skills before returning to the classroom in September.
The practice works with children across a range of speech, language and communication needs, supporting them both academically and socially as they progress through school.
According to the clinic, summer can provide a less pressured environment for children to work on communication goals, helping them prepare for new teachers, classmates and classroom routines when the school year resumes.
With limited summer appointments available, parents are being encouraged to plan ahead if they are considering additional support before September.
