Mallow Legends Aaron O’Connor and Michael Okere Set for Gruelling 4x4x48 Charity Challenge

Mallow’s Aaron O’Connor and Michael Okere are preparing to cement their places as local legends as they take on one of the toughest endurance challenges around — the David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge — in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and Samaritans.

Beginning on June 26, the pair will run four miles every four hours for 48 consecutive hours, covering a total of 48 miles across two days and nights with little opportunity for rest.

The challenge, inspired by endurance athlete David Goggins, has become a popular test of physical and mental resilience worldwide, demanding participants maintain a relentless schedule around the clock.

Aaron and Michael are undertaking the challenge to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society and Samaritans, two organisations that provide vital support to people and families across Ireland.

The pair are also inviting members of the community to join them for any of the runs throughout the weekend.

“We’d love some company on any of the runs. Whether it’s one mile, one full run or a few throughout the weekend, everyone is welcome,” they said on social media.

The challenge begins at 8am on Friday morning, with runners setting off every four hours thereafter. In total, the pair will complete 12 runs over the 48-hour period, with the final outing scheduled for 4am on Sunday.

Those wishing to support the fundraiser can do so through the pair’s GoFundMe campaign, with all proceeds going directly to the Irish Cancer Society and Samaritans. The community is also being encouraged to come along, cheer the runners on, or join them for part of the journey as they attempt one of the most demanding endurance challenges around.
