Mallow Swimming Pool Set to Reopen in Late August After Renovation Delays

Mallow Swimming Pool is now expected to reopen to the public in late August, following a revised timeline confirmed after recent updates on the ongoing refurbishment works.

At a recent Municipal District meeting, it was confirmed that the handover of the facility from the contractor to Cork County Council is scheduled for 31 July. Once the handover is complete, the council estimates that a further two weeks will be required to recommission the pool before it can safely reopen.

The updated timeline places the reopening approximately two months later than previously anticipated, reflecting delays encountered during the refurbishment project.

According to the latest update, several issues contributed to the delay. These included the discovery of resin fillers beneath the original pool tiles, which required manual removal, discrepancies in the pool’s exact dimensions identified during retiling, and a minor additional delay linked to car park extension works.

Despite these setbacks, officials have indicated that the project is now in its final stages and no further delays are currently expected.

Local representatives noted that there is strong anticipation among swimming clubs and individual users eager to return to the facility once it reopens.
