Doneraile Estate to host immersive historical theatre experience with The Verdant Troop

Doneraile Estate is set to step back in time this May as audiences are invited to experience an immersive garden theatre performance bringing North Cork’s history vividly to life.

The Verdant Troop will present a unique outdoor production on Sunday, May 3rd, transforming Doneraile Wildlife Park into a living stage where history and performance intertwine.

The event will feature up to 15 actors who will guide visitors through centuries of local heritage, with characters from the past emerging throughout the grounds to tell the stories of Doneraile and wider North Cork.

Organisers describe the experience as more than a traditional guided tour, instead offering a “living production” where historical narrative and theatrical performance combine to create a fully immersive journey through time.

Visitors will be led through the estate’s historic landscape, with performances designed to highlight key moments and figures spanning more than 400 years of local history. The experience aims to transform the park into a “tapestry of tales,” blending storytelling, drama and place-based heritage.

The event will take place from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, May 3rd, with attendees asked to meet at the car park beside the playground where the journey will begin.

The Verdant Troop say the performance is designed to allow audiences to experience Doneraile not just as a scenic park, but as a landscape shaped by centuries of stories, struggles and community life.

Tickets are available via the organisers’ online channels.
