The North Cork community is preparing to pay its respects to Michael (Mike “The Fig”) O’Regan, Ballyguyroe, Shanballymore, whose funeral takes place this Saturday, 11th April, following his sudden and tragic passing.

A cherished figure in the local community, Michael, affectionately known as “Fig”,was widely recognised at Hannah’s / Griffin’s Bar, where he was more than a regular customer. He was a friend, confidant, and an integral part of countless local events. Staff and patrons described him as the “backbone of every event,” a man with a soft soul, a big heart, and an infectious sense of humour. From senior Mondays to trad Sundays, Fig was always at the counter, keeping the banter alive and helping wherever he could.
“The community is lost for words,” the bar posted on social media. “He was part of so many special moments here. A big cog in the wheel is gone with him. The place won’t be the same without him. We will miss that cheeky smile and those brown eyes. Rest easy, Fig.”
Michael is survived by his son Jack and partner Sinéad, his daughter Lynn and partner Michael, his brothers Eamonn, Declan, Brendan, and Don, his sisters Eleanor (McMillan, Kildorrery), Marion (Bate, Mullingar), Annette (Walsh, Grenagh), and his extended family, cousins, relatives, neighbours, and countless friends. His loyal dog, Ross, also remains a beloved companion to the family.
Michael’s passing follows a tragic road incident on the N72 between Fermoy and Mallow on Monday, 6th April 2026.
This devastating loss has been felt across North Cork, with the community rallying to support Michael’s family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
