Community Mourns Timmy Joe Forde, Founding Member of Laharn Action Group

The Laharn community is in mourning following the sudden death of Timmy Joe Forde.

 A founding member of the Laharn Community Action Group, Timmy Joe’s dedication and spirit helped shape the area’s community life for decades.

Known for his tireless commitment to local projects, Timmy Joe was always willing to get involved wherever he was needed. Whether setting up the stage for the Open Air Crossroads Dancing at Laharn Cross or tackling challenging tasks with his Yellow JCB, his practical support and hands-on approach left a lasting mark on the community.

He played a leading role in developing the Laharn Heritage Centre, transforming the old schoolhouse into a vibrant hub for cultural and social events. As the centre’s resident “Fear an Tí” during traditional Irish nights, Timmy Joe welcomed visitors with warmth and humour, making every gathering memorable.

A gifted singer, he brought joy to countless events, with his rendition of “Hard Times” fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of hearing him perform. Beyond his contributions to projects and events, Timmy Joe embodied the spirit of volunteerism and community pride that defines Laharn. His generosity, kindness, and sense of humour touched everyone he met, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Speaking on behalf of the groupm on social media, Laharn Community Action Group extended heartfelt sympathies to Timmy Joe’s sister Eileen, his family, friends, and all who knew him. “He was a true gentleman and a loyal friend. His dedication, warmth, and community spirit will never be forgotten,” the statement read.

Timothy Joseph (Timmy Joe) Forde, of Gneeves, Glantane, son of the late Jeremiah and Rita Forde, leaves behind a lasting legacy in Laharn, one that will continue to inspire the community he loved so dearly. He is sadly missed by his sister Eileen, cousins, relatives, neighbours, and countless friends.

Timmy Joe’s lying in repose will take place at O’Connell’s Funeral Home, St. James’ Avenue, Mallow (P51 HH61) on Friday, April 10th from 6pm, with prayers at 7pm, followed by removal to St. John’s Church, Glantane. Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, April 11th at 2.30pm, followed by burial in the local cemetery.
