The team behind the Cork Area Commuter Rail Programme, in partnership with BAM, has been named a finalist in the Irish Construction Excellence Awards for Innovation in Construction.
The programme, which aims to transform the Cork rail network, will bring more stations, more services, and electrification, making it easier for communities across the greater Cork area to “turn up and ride.”
Phase 1 has seen the twin-tracking of the Glounthaune to Midleton line, allowing more frequent services. The project has been delivered with sustainability at its heart, using circular economy principles, carefully selected materials, and investing in the local community along the way.
Commenting on the recognition, an Iarnród Éireann spokesperson said:
“This nomination is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of our team and partners. It shows that major infrastructure projects can be delivered efficiently, sustainably, and with real benefits for local communities.”
The programme continues to set a benchmark for modern, low-carbon infrastructure in the region.
