North Cork Leaders to Feature Prominently at Rural Life Conference in Munster

North Cork and the Avondhu region will be strongly represented at the upcoming “Strengthening Rural Life from Farm to Community” workshop, taking place at Munster Technological University on 20 February 2026 from 10am to 3pm. The event brings together policymakers, farmers, educators, innovators, and community leaders to explore how rural communities can remain vibrant and resilient while supporting Ireland’s agricultural future.

Among the notable attendees from North Cork is Billy Cotter of Cotters Farm in Castletownroche, who will contribute practical farming experience to the discussions. Niall Walsh of Avondhu Blackwater Partnership will also attend, representing local community and development interests.

The conference will feature Tadhg Buckley of the Irish Farmers’ Association. A native of North Cork, Tadhg remains actively involved in dairy farming on his home farm. He holds a Degree in Agricultural Science from University College Dublin and an MBA from the University of Limerick. He is also a Nuffield Scholar, a member of the Agricultural Science Association, and a Qualified Financial Advisor. Prior to his current role, he led AIB’s agri advisory team in the South of Ireland.

The workshop will focus on key themes, including the impact of the Common Agricultural Policy post-2027 and strategies to better support rural communities and industries. Discussions will also explore balancing specialisation and diversification to strengthen local economies and keep rural communities thriving, as well as the future of farming through new educational pathways and technological opportunities that empower the next generation. The event will feature a keynote address by Billy Kelleher MEP, providing a platform for open discussion on creating a shared vision for a strong, connected rural Ireland, where farming sustains not only production but community life.

This conference highlights the active role North Cork individuals and organisations play in shaping the future of agriculture and rural communities, reinforcing the region’s commitment to sustainable farming, innovation, and community cohesion.
