Exciting Active Travel and School Safety Funding for Mallow, Charleville, and Baltydaniel NS

The Government has confirmed a major funding boost for walking, cycling, and school safety projects in Cork, with almost €22 million allocated to the county in 2026. Among the projects approved in the Mallow area are improvements to active travel routes within towns and villages in the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District, and safety upgrades for pupils at Baltydaniel National School and CBS Charleville.

Minister of State in the Department of Transport, Jerry Buttimer, said the investment, part of a €360 million national programme for Active Travel and Greenways, is aimed at providing safe, sustainable, and healthy transport options for communities.

The funding for Mallow and surrounding areas includes €220,000 for Active Travel improvements within towns and villages in the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District, while Safe Routes to School projects at Baltydaniel NS and CBS Charleville will each receive €5,000 to improve student safety.

These investments are expected to make a significant difference for pedestrians, cyclists, and schoolchildren across Mallow, Charleville, and the wider North Cork region, supporting safer, greener, and more sustainable communities.
