Barry-John Ryan Financial Planning Shows How Mallow Families Can Save Hundreds

Gavin O’Sullivan CFP®,QFA,RPA,SIA,FPRA O’Sullivan of BARRY-JOHN RYAN FINANCIAL PLANNING in Mallow says a few small changes can help households save hundreds of euro, as the year draws to a close as many families are looking for ways to stretch their budgets and make their money go further.

One of the easiest ways to save, he says, is by shopping around for car insurance. “You could save between €300 and €600 a year just by comparing policies,” he told the Irish Independent, “I would also recommend shopping around three to four weeks before renewal and using comparison sites.”

Phone and broadband bills are another area where families can cut costs. “By reviewing your current plan, you could save more than €200 a year,” O’Sullivan said, “Sim-only deals can be as low as €10 to €20 a month, whereas contracts can run from €50 to €70. Broadband-only packages or bundles can often be reduced by €20 to €30 per month by switching or negotiating.”

Groceries are often one of the largest household expenses, but a few simple changes can make a big difference. “Switching to own-brand basics, planning meals, avoiding midweek top-ups and using loyalty cards or coupons can help put money back in your pocket,” he said.
