Glennon Brothers recently welcomed Éanna Ní Lamhna and Brendan Fitzsimons from the Tree Council of Ireland to their forestry and sawmilling operations in north Cork.
The visit began in Killavullen forest, nestled in the Nagles Mountains, where the visitors were shown the company’s sustainable harvesting practices. They were accompanied by Mike Glennon and members of his team, who outlined Glennon Brothers’ ongoing commitment to responsible forest management.
From there, the group travelled to the company’s flagship sawmill in Fermoy, where they were given a tour of the modern facility and shown the company’s recent significant investments in state-of-the-art technology. These upgrades are helping the firm produce high-quality, sustainable timber products for the construction and packaging sectors.
Discussions on the day centred on the potential of Ireland’s forestry sector — particularly its ability to support national climate targets and provide much-needed home-grown softwoods for the housing market.
The visit underlined the shared goals of both organisations in promoting sustainable forestry and maximising the environmental and economic value of Ireland’s forests.
