The Ballyhass Triathlon, hosted by Mallow Triathlon Club, makes its much-anticipated return this weekend for its sixth edition, and it promises to be faster, tougher, and even more rewarding than ever.
Building on the success of previous years, the 2025 Ballyhass Sprint retains its popular Sprint race and Try-a-Tri event, while adding an exciting new category: the Aqua-Bike.
This addition opens the competition to even more athletes, with every point counting towards the coveted Club Champion’s Trophy.
Competitors will once again test themselves against the stunning but demanding backdrop of Ballyhass Lakes.
The race begins with a swim across the deep, clear waters, starting from the pontoon on the northern side of the lake. Athletes will cut eastwards around the buoys before turning back west, finishing with a beach landing cheered on by marshals.
From there, it’s a 125-metre dash to transition, mixing grass and carpet underfoot.
The 20km cycle offers a fast but challenging course, with 187 metres of elevation.
Riders will leave Ballyhass Aquapark and sweep through Castlemagner, Cecilstown, and along stretches of the N72. The route includes sharp turns, steady drags, and technical sections that will test every cyclist’s stamina and focus.
Then comes the run. A road and gravel mix, starting gently before opening out towards Cecilstown. The final 2.2km promises a thrilling downhill push to the finish line, set in the field beside transition, a sprint to remember after a gruelling contest.
Athletes are reminded that roads remain open, marshals will be stationed throughout, and gear in transition must be kept within the designated boxes to avoid penalties. Swimmers will be seeded by ability, with a rolling start from the pontoon.
The Ballyhass Triathlon has become a highlight of the racing calendar, welcoming first-timers, seasoned competitors, and club members alike.
