Shanballymore Mourns the Loss of Billy O’Grady After Tragic Accident

The community of Shanballymore has been left devastated following the tragic death of Billy O’Grady in a single-vehicle collision on the M8 near Glanmire on Wednesday morning.

Billy, described as “a man with great character and presence,” was a much-loved player with Shanballymore GAA. In a statement, the club expressed their deep sadness.

“It is with deep sorrow that Shanballymore GAA has learned of the untimely passing of our club player and friend, Billy. A young man of great character and presence, he was a credit to his family and to our club. Our condolences go to his parents John and Caroline, siblings Jordon, Kelly and Ollie, girlfriend Chloe, extended family members, friends, and all those in the Shanballymore community. Our focus remains on remembering Billy as a player, friend, and clubmate, and on supporting his family during this most difficult time.”

As a mark of respect to the O’Grady and Butler families, Shanballymore GAA have suspended all activities at the club grounds, with the walkway also closed until further notice.

St. Dominic’s GAA also paid tribute by sharing a video of memories of Billy playing in their green and black colours. “A terrible shock for all of us,” the club said. “Billy was more than a player, he was a friend and a vital part of our club family.”

Meanwhile, Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the collision, which occurred shortly before 7am. They are asking any road users who may have been in the area and who have dashcam footage to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021 4558510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
