We felt a bit peckish one morning and decided to go for breakfast. There was, however, a problem. Breakfast offerings in Mallow are few and far between (depending on the day!) with many having to go further afield to get the perfect start to their morning.
We, a family of four, have tried most, if not all, the local options, but we hadn’t visited the Courthouse Bistro since its name and management changed. When we arrived, there was plenty of space to sit. We even had the option of sitting outside, and this is perfect for sunny days like we’ve had recently, but we chose to sit inside.
To be clear, our family of four has two children aged 1.5 and 3. Trying to eat anywhere with them can be a mission which any parent can attest to, especially with 2 under 3!
Once sitting (we sat beside open double doors, so got the benefit of the fresh air creeping in), we got our menus and ordered.
The first thing the kids wanted to do was go to a little ball pit that is set up in the restaurant. This is a fantastic amenity for families and keeps the kids happy while waiting for food, and it certainly kept our two busy.
Once the food came, we all sat down to enjoy the meal. Usually, I would have gone for a ‘Full Irish’, but this time decided to go for some Brioche French Toast. It was perfect, as were the other meals that came out, including those for the children. The servings were the ideal size, so you weren’t left hungry, but not needing to be wheeled out of the place either.
After, it was hard to pull the kids away from the play area as they enjoyed it so much. This is something you rarely find in any restaurant, so it was a bonus.
Pricewise, it was fairly spot on.
Our rating is a solid 4.5/5. Only losing marks as Pancakes don’t make the adult menu, but do for the kids!
We certainly enjoyed our trip and the atmosphere, and will visit again.
The restaurant didn’t pay for this review, and it represents the author’s personal view.
