O’Shea Chairs Dáil Éireann Proceedings for First Time

It was a proud moment for Cork North West representation in Dáil Éireann this week as John Paul O’Shea filled in for the Ceann Comhairle and chaired proceedings for the first time.

Deputy O’Shea, a Fine Gael TD for Cork North West, thanked the Oireachtas for the opportunity to serve on the Panel of Temporary Chairpersons during the March 4th sitting.

He follows in the footsteps of Cork North Central TD Ken O’Flynn, who also chaired Dáil proceedings in April 2025 and spoke of the significance of the role.

Deputy O’Flynn said at the time, “It was a profound honor to serve as the Chair of the proceedings of Dáil Éireann for the first time this week. I extend my sincere gratitude to Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy TD for entrusting me with a position on the Panel of Temporary Chairpersons. This esteemed opportunity is one I hold in the highest regard.”

Both appointments mark notable milestones for Cork North West and North Central representation in the national parliament and highlight the role local TDs continue to play within the Houses of the Oireachtas.
