Night-Time Traffic Restrictions on N20 for Exceptional Abnormal Load This Weekend

Cork County Council has warned motorists of significant night-time traffic restrictions on the N20 this weekend to accommodate the transport of an Exceptional Abnormal Load (EAL) under Garda escort. The load will travel from Limerick to Ballyhay, continuing on to Ballyroe Solar Farm.

The movements are scheduled over two nights to minimise daytime disruption, with road closures and temporary diversion routes in place.

On Saturday 14 February from 8pm to Sunday 15 February at 7am, the N20 from Croom to the Limerick/Cork boundary will be closed. From the Limerick border through Charleville to Ballyhay, the N20 will remain open to local traffic, but delays are expected as the slow-moving convoy travels southbound. The convoy is anticipated to reach the Charleville area between midnight and 3am.

On Sunday 15 February from 8pm to Monday 16 February at 5am, the L5530 at Ballyhay will be closed, with fully signposted diversions and local access maintained. Additional delays are expected on the L5529 during the convoy’s passage.

Cork County Council has advised all motorists to plan journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, and follow diversion signage and Garda instructions while the transport operation is underway.
