Maureen’s Pub Celebrates 80 Years at the Heart of Mallow

One of Mallow’s most beloved and enduring family-run establishments, Maureen’s Pub, is marking a remarkable milestone with 80 years in business.

The pub was founded in 1945 when Maureen Murphy Dinan purchased the premises on O’Brien Street on March 13. The doors officially opened to the public on 24 October 1945, after the end of the Emergency and World War II. Since then, it has become a local institution, welcoming generations of customers and remaining a cherished meeting spot for the community. Over the years, it has witnessed the world evolve through recessions, economic growth, celebrations, losses, everyday life, and new beginnings.

Maureen’s Pub has long been linked with Mallow’s sporting life. Today, it continues its proud tradition as a major sponsor of Mallow GAA and holds a special place in the town’s darts history, as the game was first introduced to Mallow through Maureen’s in the late 1940s.

The premises is also the birthplace of Canon P.A. Sheehan, the esteemed priest, poet, and author whose legacy still resonates across Ireland.

A place to savour fun and festivities, where you can stop by for a pint and enjoy the friendly atmosphere, comfortable surroundings, and a well-poured drink.

Eighty years on, Maureen’s Pub remains not just a business but a cornerstone of Mallow’s community life, steeped in history, sport, and the spirit of good company.
