Mallow and Charleville Set for a “Wicked” Culture Night This Friday

Culture Night returns with a packed programme across Mallow and Charleville, offering something for every taste, from family-friendly film screenings to late-night music, community performances, and creative workshops.

There is a little bit of culture for everyone this Friday, from the grand outdoors in Mallow Castle to a high-octane sesh night in the Bridge House, while theatre, photography and the arts are all set to feature across Mallow and Charleville.

At the heart of the of Culture Night celebrations in Mallow is a special outdoor screening of Wicked (2024) at the iconic Mallow Castle. The breathtaking film adaptation of the Broadway classic stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande and will be shown under the stars with free admission. Gates open at 7 pm, and the evening begins with a vibrant dance performance from The FrienDS Club, a youth organisation supporting young people with Down Syndrome through creativity, fun, and friendship.

Music and theatre lovers will also be spoiled for choice. Mallow Musical Society makes its Culture Night debut with an interactive workshop built around Mamma Mia 2’s “When I Kissed the Teacher”, while St. James’ Church will host soprano Emily Magner Hurley, Cór Magh Ealla and rising star Shona Murphy in an enchanting evening of classical and popular melodies.

For those drawn to creativity and expression, West End Art Studios is inviting friends, couples, and curious newcomers to Paint Your Pal, a relaxed portrait session where participants will capture each other in a fun, colourful atmosphere. Meanwhile, Mallow Library will showcase the written and spoken word with poetry, music, and an open mic hosted by the Mallow Scribes from 2–4 pm.

Community and diversity also take centre stage at the Mercy Centre, where Seeds of Harmony launches a new Community Garden Project with live music from multicultural choir OTOV, celebrating growth, unity, and imagination.

In Charleville, the Charleville Art Society launches its Art Trail Exhibition across the town, beginning at Chic Boutique on Main Street at 3 pm. Nearby, Charleville Town Library will host Fields of Gold, a striking photography exhibition capturing the traditions, beauty, and dedication of local agriculture and dairy farming.

And for those looking to round off the night in style, The Hooley at The Bridge will bring ceol, craic, sean-nós dancing and storytelling to the Bridge House Bar from 10 pm until late, with music from the lively group “Water The Pony.”
