Major Investment Projects at the Starting Blocks for Mallow

Mallow is set to benefit from a series of significant investments, with three major projects now progressing that promise to enhance culture, public spaces, and sporting facilities in the town.

The redevelopment of the Mallow Town Hall Theatre is advancing steadily. Stage 1 of the tender process has been completed, and Stage 2 tenders were issued this week. A contractor is expected to be appointed in early 2026. The project is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Programme.

Work is also underway on the Mallow Public Realm Enhancement, funded under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF). The consultant tender was issued in July, and submissions are currently being assessed. A consultant is expected to be appointed before the end of this year, with public consultation to follow in 2026.

Meanwhile, the long-anticipated Carrigoon Athletic Track has secured €2 million in funding under the Large Scale Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF). The project is awaiting Departmental approval before progressing to the tender stage.

These developments were highlighted on social media by Cllr Tony O’Shea and Ken O’Flynn, who welcomed the investment as a major boost for Mallow.

Responding to concerns raised about the town’s growing traffic problems on social media, Cllr O’Shea acknowledged the issue, stating:

“You’re absolutely right about the traffic situation in Mallow, and with the scale of housing development planned, it’s only going to get worse unless proper infrastructure is delivered alongside it.
Just to be clear, the funding in question here is a completely different type of funding and not something that could be redirected into the relief road.
That said, I absolutely agree with you that the Mallow relief road is essential, and I for one will be pushing strongly to see it progressed as quickly as possible.”
