It was a superb opening weekend for North Cork rugby, with Kanturk, Mallow, and Charleville & District RFC all recording impressive wins in high-scoring encounters.
Kanturk set the tone with a 27–19 victory over Thurles, showing great composure to see off a determined challenge and start their campaign on the right foot.
Mallow followed up with a nail-biting contest, edging past their opponents 27–23. In a game that swung back and forth, it was Mallow’s resilience in the closing stages that secured a hard-earned four-point win.
The standout scoreline of the weekend came from Abbeyfeale, where Charleville & District RFC overpowered the hosts in a 13-try thriller, running out 50–29 winners.
From the outset, Charleville made their intent for the season clear, producing a display full of ambition and teamwork.
Tries came from across the pitch, with Eoin Mac and Darragh Browne both crossing twice, while Conor Barrett, Jessie Smith (2), and PJ O’Connor also dotted down. From the boot, Kian Smith kept the scoreboard ticking with five successful conversions.
Though Abbeyfeale fought hard for their 29 points, Charleville’s attacking depth and clinical finishing ensured a deserved victory, reflecting both the players’ commitment and the strong preparation of the coaching team.
Three games, three wins, a weekend to remember for North Cork rugby.
