The long-awaited social housing development at Ballydaheen, Mallow, is finally set to break ground.
Labour TD Eoghan Kenny confirmed on social media that Cork County Council is expected to sign off on the project, with the private owners to follow shortly after. Once completed, the scheme will deliver 46 new homes, a mix of 10 three-bedroom houses and 36 apartments, all to be acquired by Cork County Council for social housing.
Originally due to begin in August, the development was delayed during negotiations. However, Kenny welcomed the breakthrough, saying:
“Great news folks — I’ve just been chatting with the private owner and it looks like the executive of Cork County Council will be signing off on the project tomorrow. After that, the private owners will follow suit, and then it’s all systems go! It’s been a long road, with months of back and forth, but I have to say both Cork County Council and the owners have been really generous with their time and effort. This project is so important for Ballydaheen. It’s part of old Mallow and it deserves to be cared for and restored properly. Delighted to see it finally moving forward!”
The development is viewed as a major boost for the community, addressing social housing needs while also contributing to the regeneration of one of Mallow’s oldest areas.
