There were great celebrations for Liscarroll and the wider North Cork athletics community as Aoife O’Sullivan claimed gold in the women’s high jump at the 123.ie National Senior Indoor Championships.
Competing at the Sport Ireland Campus, O’Sullivan delivered a composed and determined performance on day one of the championships, with the competition going right down to the wire.
The contest was decided by a dramatic jump-off between O’Sullivan of Liscarroll A.C. and Sommer Lecky of Finn Valley A.C. Both athletes successfully cleared 1.75m. However, it was O’Sullivan who secured the national title on countback, having recorded the best overall clearance of the day.
Leading the congratulations was Munster Technological University, which praised the achievement and noted that the victory completes a remarkable double for the North Cork athlete. O’Sullivan previously claimed the National Senior Outdoor High Jump title last summer, adding further distinction to her growing list of achievements.
