Avondhu Blackwater Partnership is offering a free one-day training programme on Understanding Self-Harm on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, from 9:30am to 5:00pm at The Old Mill, Ballyadeen, Castletownroche, Co. Cork (P51 F9PX).
This informative and interactive workshop aims to deepen participants’ understanding of self-harm, examine the underlying factors that may contribute to such behaviours, and build confidence in responding in a supportive and compassionate way. The day will combine expert presentations with video materials, practical case examples, and facilitated group discussion.
The training is particularly relevant for professionals and volunteers working in frontline or supportive roles, including nurses, social workers, members of An Garda Síochána, counsellors, teachers, youth and community workers, as well as childcare and residential care staff.
Attendees will receive a certificate of participation, copies of the training materials, and a comprehensive guide to local and national support services. The course may also qualify for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points, depending on individual accrediting bodies.
Please note that, due to the sensitive subject matter, the training is not recommended for individuals who have been bereaved by or directly affected by suicide within the past 12 months. Participation is open to those aged 18 and over. The session will begin promptly at 9:30am. Places are limited and subject to minimum numbers.
