Councillors Tony O’Shea and Gearoid Murphy have kicked off the festive season by announcing that free parking will be available in Mallow from December 1st until January 4th. The initiative, facilitated by Cork County Council and the Kanturk-Mallow Municipal District, aims to encourage people to shop local and support the town’s many fantastic businesses throughout the busy Christmas period.
“Let’s make this Christmas special by shopping local and supporting our amazing local businesses,” said Councillor Tony O’Shea, who, along with Councillor Gearoid Murphy, was quick out of the festive gap to share the good news with the community.
While parking will be free, normal time restrictions and parking rules still apply. Motorists are reminded to check on-street signage and continue to observe double yellow lines and other restrictions.
Council-operated car parks that will be free all day include Bowling Green Car Park, Muddy Hill Car Park, Park Road Car Park, Bridge Street Car Park, Shortcastle Street (Northern section), as well as Beecher Street and Navigation Road. Bowling Green Car Park does not include the on-street parking beside the car park. Other Council-operated car parks will be free but have time limits: Carmichael Lane Car Park is free for three hours, St. James’ Avenue Car Park for two hours, and Spa Walk Car Park for two hours.
Councillors O’Shea and Murphy expressed their gratitude to Cork County Council for supporting the initiative, noting that it will help make Mallow’s town centre more welcoming and accessible during the Christmas season.
Mallow & District Live also shared a cheerful note for the town’s traffic wardens, wishing them a happy Christmas and joking that hot chocolate, podcast, and book recommendations would be provided in due course.
With free parking, sparkling lights, and a strong community spirit, Mallow is ready to sleigh this Christmas season.
