Four kilometres every four hours for 48 hours.
That’s the extraordinary test being undertaken this weekend by some of Buttevant’s biggest characters, all in aid of the club’s development fundraiser. From Friday, 5th September 2025, a group of dedicated participants will set out to run or walk through the day and night, covering a total of 48 kilometres each as they raise money for Buttevant GAA, Juvenile GAA and Camogie.
The challenge, known as the 4x4x48, was first introduced by American ultramarathon runner David Goggins and has since become a recognised test of endurance across the world. It’s as demanding mentally as it is physically, but in Buttevant the emphasis will be on community spirit as much as competition, with locals rallying behind the runners to keep them going.
Supporters are invited to call down to the pitch over the weekend to cheer on the participants and to show their encouragement with a donation through iDonate. Every euro raised will go directly towards improving club facilities and securing a bright future for the next generation of players. Organisers say this fundraiser is about much more than just endurance. It’s an investment in the health, well-being and sporting success of the entire Buttevant community. All of these efforts will lead into a glittering finale later in the year, when the fundraising drive culminates in a Hollywood Movie Awards Night on Saturday, 22nd November. This promises to be a night like no other, with glitz, glamour and entertainment as seven groups bring iconic productions to life. The line-up includes The Field, The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Young Offenders, Sister Act, A Few Good Men, Love/Hate and Derry Girls.
