Transport Infrastructure Ireland has allocated €3,835,796 to Cork County Council for the long-awaited Mallow Relief Road project, providing a major boost to efforts to ease congestion in the town.
The project is currently in Phase 3, focusing on design and environmental evaluation. The next key step is the submission of the Preliminary Business Case, expected in the second quarter of 2026. If approved, the scheme will then progress to statutory planning with An Coimisiún Pleanála.
The Mallow Relief Road has been a topic of discussion locally for many years, with growing traffic pressures on the N72 and N73 affecting commuters, local businesses, and residents alike.
Ken O’Flynn T.D., who has been monitoring progress closely, emphasised the importance of staying on track at every stage of the project. “My role is simple. Keep pressure on every stage. Monitor timelines. Demand progress,” he said.
He also confirmed he will continue providing updates every eight weeks and encouraged residents to contact his office directly for information.
The relief road is expected to deliver improved traffic flow, reduced congestion, and enhanced safety for Mallow’s road users, marking a significant infrastructure development for the North Cork region.
