The Green Witches, a well-known Doneraile wellness business, has spoken out after incidents that left staff feeling disrespected and uncomfortable due to misconceptions about their profession.
The family-run holistic therapy studio, based on Doneraile’s Main Street, offers professional massage, reiki, reflexology and other wellness treatments. However, the team says they have become increasingly frustrated by inappropriate messages, comments and “jokes”, often from men, that undermine their work.
“We’ve grown used to stereotypes and the occasional crude remark, but things change when a member of staff feels threatened while simply trying to do her job,” they said. “Putting a woman in a vulnerable position while she’s trying to earn a living is not acceptable.”
In response, The Green Witches have said they will now be more cautious when taking on new male clients. While not refusing all male customers, they emphasised that staff will exercise their right to decline bookings if they feel uneasy or unsafe.
“This isn’t about unfair judgement,” they explained. “It’s about protecting ourselves and maintaining a safe, respectful space for everyone.”
Originally opened as Two Green Witches, the business rebranded in 2025 after moving to new premises on Doneraile’s Main Street.
The Green Witches remains a family-owned and run business, continuing to provide professional holistic treatments.
