Mallow’s Demi Isaac lands major RTÉ 2FM lunchtime role in schedule shake-up

Mallow’s own Demi Isaac is set for a major national role after being named co-host of RTÉ 2FM’s weekday lunchtime show.

Isaac, who has been steadily rising in the Irish media scene since her debut in The Young Offenders, will take over the 12–3pm slot as part of a major shake-up of the national broadcaster’s daytime schedule, which comes into effect on May 5.

Broadcasting from RTÉ’s Cork studios, Demi will front 2FM Afternoon alongside Mikey O’Reilly, who will be based in Dublin.

The new role marks a significant milestone for the Mallow native, who recently impressed listeners while covering the drivetime slot and delivering a series of live outside broadcasts in Cork and Prague during Ireland’s build-up to their clash with Czechia.

Isaac first caught the attention of 2FM audiences when she stepped in to cover Doireann Garrihy’s show during maternity leave last October. Her natural ease on air and strong connection with listeners helped her stand out, with she and O’Reilly later securing the role through an internal competition process.

She now takes over from long-time presenter Tracy Clifford, who is stepping away from the afternoon show after more than a decade on air. Clifford has publicly backed the new duo, praising their “unmistakable spark” and wishing them well in the role.

The new show will reflect 2FM’s evolving approach, with production split between Cork and Dublin, while also highlighting the station’s continued investment in regional talent.

The refreshed 2FM schedule is part of RTÉ’s wider strategy to better connect with younger audiences, with Demi Isaac now playing a key role in shaping the sound of weekday afternoons.

Demi is also back on screen this week, reprising her role as Linda Walsh in season five of The Young Offenders. The new series of the hit comedy launches on RTÉ Player and BBC iPlayer on April 3, with weekly episodes airing on RTÉ One from Saturday, April 4. Produced by Vico Films for the BBC in association with RTÉ, the latest season sees the return of the original cast, including Chris Walley, Alex Murphy, Hilary Rose and Shane Casey.
