Declan Gould Launches Latest Book at Bridhaven Nursing Home

A special community event will take place at Bridhaven Nursing Home, Spa Glen, on Sunday, 22 February at 3pm, to mark the launch of Declan Gould’s latest book. Titled Celebration and Circumspection, the afternoon promises a blend of literature, music, and thoughtful reflection.

Declan, a long-time resident of Bridhaven, first gained attention with his 2020 autobiographical work, Crazy Daze – A Bipolar Odyssey, which recounts experiences from his life in the United States, Zimbabwe, and Ireland, alongside a candid account of living with bipolar disorder. The book was widely praised for its honesty and engagement with mental health issues.

He subsequently published the From the Hostel series, exploring reflections on everyday life, resilience, identity, and social responsibility. His newest book continues in this reflective vein, weaving personal experiences with broader community and societal themes.

The afternoon will be hosted by Tadhg Curtis, Chairperson of Mallow Arts Collective, who will act as Master of Ceremonies. Music will be provided by Declan himself, accompanied by Catherine O’Callaghan, adding a personal and creative dimension to the event. Brief guest contributions will also feature. Sean Ó Floinn will discuss the origins of Friends of the Earth in Cork and their role in climate action, while Vincent Murphy will reflect on the origins and work of The Next Step, supporting those experiencing mental health challenges. Both talks complement the civic and reflective themes of Declan’s writing.

Organisers describe the launch as both a celebration of Declan’s literary achievements and an opportunity for conversation, shared reflection, and community connection. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.
