Kanturk AFC’s Eoin Looney captained Cork Youth League to All-Ireland glory as they secured a 1-0 victory over the Dublin & District Schoolboys’/girls’ League (DDSL) in the 2026 FAI Youth Inter-League Cup Final at St. Colman’s Park, Cobh.
The decisive moment came from Max Murphy, who rose highest to power home a header from a perfectly delivered, floating corner kick, a goal that ultimately separated the sides in a tightly contested final.
Looney, leading the team from the front, played a key role as Cork produced a disciplined and determined performance to lift the trophy and underline the league’s continued strength at youth level.
Ahead of the final, a spokesperson for Kanturk AFC told Mallow District Live that the club was extremely proud of Looney’s achievement. They praised his attitude, commitment and talent, describing him as one of the most outstanding players in the club’s history.
“For him to be captaining the youth team is an unbelievable achievement. His work rate and skill are as good as we have seen in this club, and we wish him all the best in the final,” the spokesperson said.
Cork Youth League have been a dominant force in the competition over the past decade, claiming five titles since 2016, and this latest triumph further strengthens their reputation on the national stage.
Both sides entered the final in strong form, with Dublin having impressed throughout their campaign. However, it was Cork who showed composure and resilience on the day, managing the game effectively after Murphy’s breakthrough and defending resolutely to see out the win.
The victory marks another proud moment for Cork youth football, and for Kanturk AFC, as Looney lifts the national title as captain.
