Charleville, Kanturk and Mallow Celebrate Strong Weekend on the Rugby Field

Charleville, Kanturk and Mallow clubs once again all enjoyed strong performances across the board to remain in contention in the early stages of the league campaign, while the Mallow women opened their account in emphatic manner.

Charleville & District RFC continued their excellent early-season form with a well-earned 28–15 victory over Castleisland RFC. The team produced an all-round display of power and precision, with tries from Daragh Browne, Brian Forde, Charlie Collins and Cathal Canning. Out-half Kian Smith added the extras with four successful conversions to round off an impressive home performance that keeps confidence high heading into the next round of fixtures.

Kanturk RFC also had reason to celebrate after securing a hard-fought 12–7 win away to Muskerry. Speaking after the game, Kanturk’s Sean O’Brien admitted that while the result was pleasing, there are still lessons to learn. “We made it hard for ourselves in the second half,” he said. “We were 12–0 up at half time and let them back into it with too many penalties. We’ll work on that in training and make sure to keep our discipline. We’re in a good position overall, numbers are strong and there’s cover in every position. Hopefully we can build from here and aim for a top-four finish.”

Mallow RFC also enjoyed a successful weekend, with the men’s side coming through a real test of their credentials in a 24–19 win away to Clanwilliam. The Mallow women got their league campaign off to the perfect start, delivering a superb performance to defeat Roaring Water Bay and set a positive tone for the season ahead.

The good news continued at youth level, where Coleman Fagan, Dylan Curtin and Michael O’Regan from the U18.5 squad proudly represented Mallow as part of the Cork U17 team at the Munster Inter-County Blitz held in Virgin Media Park on November 2nd. The trio performed brilliantly, showcasing both their skill and commitment while representing their club and county with pride.

There was further celebration for Mallow’s young stars as Ailis Kelleher and Daisy McSherry were selected for the Munster U16 Rugby Regional Development Programme. It is a fantastic achievement for both players and a reflection of the growing strength of the girls’ game within the club.
